It is with great sadness that we report the death of Bob Stewart at the age of 82.  Bob died peacefully on 2 August 2005, after a long and brave battle with cancer.

Bob was a founder member of the Eynsford Concert Band back in 1972, and stayed with the Band until early last year.  Even in his retirement from playing the bass clarinet, he never missed a Band performance.

During the Second World War, Bob was a Flying Officer in the Royal Air Force, and later, in Civvy Street, he trained as a teacher under the government’s Emergency Training Scheme, qualifying in just one year.  After a number of posts, Bob finished his career as deputy headmaster of The Anthony Roper School here in Eynsford.

Bob was a devoted husband to Joyce for over fifty years, and to Joyce we send our deepest sympathies.

A man of many talents, Bob excelled at crosswords, frequently finishing The Telegraph and The Times crosswords with ease.  He had a great love of gardening, and in his later years became a competent bowler.

However, it is as a musician that we will best remember Bob.  Having learnt to read music at the age of forty, Bob taught himself to play the clarinet, so leading to his long association with the Band.  A fine tenor voice was also put to great use in a number of performances of Gilbert and Sullivan operas.

Bob will be greatly missed by all his friends in the Eynsford Concert Band.
