"Heritage"
- the new offering from Eynsford Concert Band

We are excited to start 2010 with the  release of our latest CD recording, entitled "Heritage".

The CD features five works by living British composers, including a specially commissioned piece by Nigel Clarke called ‘Heritage Suite’.

The other works featured are ‘Albion Heritage’ by Philip Sparke; ‘Paris Sketches’ by Martin Ellerby; ‘Thames Journey’ by Nigel Hess and ‘Yiddish Dances’ by Adam Gorb.

The release of this recording is the culmination of an exciting (if somewhat hectic) 2009.  We have had an amazing experience, from the first rehearsal of a specially commissioned Suite, through to the world premiere performance and the recording of this CD.

2010 looks to be just as exciting.  January will see our new CD ‘hit the streets’ and the date for our Spring Concert at the Mick Jagger Centre is already in the diary. In addition, we are currently finalising our plans for a trip to Brussels in October.

Fund Raising by the Eynsford Concert Band

Every year the Band selects a charity to support through donations from concerts and social events.

During 2009, the band has been able to help Spadework - an independent charity which provides tuition for adults with learning difficulties. 2009 was a busy and challenging year for us and we are proud to have raised over £3,500 for local charities. We raised over £700 at our charity concert in July. Following this, our world Premiere performance of Heritage Suite (What Hope Saw) at the Pilsdon community, West Malling, raised £2,000 which was shared equally between the Pilsdon community and Spadework.

For 2010, we have chosen the Oliver Fisher Special Care Baby Trust as our Charity for the year.  The Trust has helped support the The Oliver Fisher Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Medway Maritime Hospital, Kent for over 25 years.  It has raised over a million pounds to buy life saving equipment for very sick and tiny premature babies.

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved in helping raise these much needed funds, the charity work we undertake has become a major part of the band's work and on behalf of the Charities, thank you all so much for your generous support.

About the Oliver Fisher Special Care Baby Trust - by Jane Wright, Flute

The Oliver Fisher Special Care Baby Trust is a charity dedicated to supporting the neonatal unit at Medway Maritime Hospital in Kent.  Phillip and I have so much to thank the unit for and are always talking about the fact that we would love to raise some money for them to say a MASSIVE "thank you" for everything that they did for Emma (and us!!!).

The Special Care Baby Unit at Medway is one of the top units in the country and I know that, when Emma was in there, there were several parents whose children had been transferred from many different parts of the South East. Not only does the unit serve Medway but they also have babies that are transferred from Dartford, Gravesend, Maidstone, Tunbridge Wells, Ashford, Dover and Hastings. In order to do this, they have to fund a Neonatal Transport Service and some of the money raised goes towards the running cost of such a highly specialised ambulance as well as the highly specialised staff that such a transport service requires.

When Emma was in the unit, I spent a lot of time talking to a Mum who had just had a baby at 25 weeks who weighed 1lb 6oz. He had been born in Dagenham and had been transferred to Medway. He was EXTREMELY sick and, obviously, his Mum wanted to be able to spend as much time as possible with him. His Mum was really struggling for money so the trust paid for her travel everyday and also the cost of getting through the Dartford Crossing. I know that this made such a difference to her because, without this support, she would not have been able to visit her son as regularly as she would have liked.

The unit has 26 cots which includes 8 intensive care cots. Highly specialised staff work in the unit and staffing costs are VERY high as many babies require 1:1 care and all babies require 24 hour care. The staff are always on hand to answer phone calls from parents checking up on their babies. I lost track of the number of times that I rang the unit in the early hours of the morning because I wanted to know that Emma was okay!!!! The standard of medical care is 2nd to none and the Trust was formed to raise additional funds to buy the essential expensive and technical equipment needed.

I hope you all agree what a worthwhile cause this is and will be able to support us during our band social events and concerts.
